The Four Books that Changed My Life

Many of you know my love for reading--it's been one of the most consistent aspects of my life ever since I was a little girl. Somewhere in 2nd or 3rd grade, I developed a strong love for books and this love has continued throughout my life. So, this post is  dedicated to the books that changed my life (quite literally) and helped me start MillennialFashionista. They opened my eyes to the world of social media and influenced the work ethic and drive I have today.

  1. #GIRLBOSS By Sophia Amoruso I remember reading this book like it was yesterday. I was choosing #GIRLBOSS over law school texts, and the concept of starting my own business was more appealing than ever before. I was dreaming of being my own boss and creating something with my own hands, something I was proud of, something I could call my own. While law school tried to mold us into the perfect attorney minions, all I wanted was to stand out. Sophia brought that out in me. It gave me the confidence to branch out and go for it. Her story inspired me to start, when I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I knew nothing about the world of blogging or influence. All I knew was I loved makeup and fashion, and I wanted to share this passion and knowledge with women. This book is perfect for any boss babe who wants to branch out and get started!
  2. Content Inc.: How Entrepreneurs Use Content to Build Massive Audiences and Create Radically Successful Businesses By Joe Pulizzi Though I knew I wanted to "do this," I didn't know what or how. Honestly, I didn't even know the world of social media existed...as a career. I had no idea all those ladies on Pinterest were real-life bloggers and that they did "this" for a living. That's where Content Inc. came in--it gave me the base knowledge about the world of social media and helped me create @millennialfashionista and millennialfashionista.com. This doesn't expound upon the world of blogging or any social media in any depth or specificity, but it completely opened my eyes to the potential of social media and where I could take it. Honestly, this is great knowledge for any business owner--social media is the present and is, most certainly, the future!
  3. The 10X Rule: The Only Difference Between Success and Failure By Grant Cardone I was introduced to the gloriousness that is Grant Cardone in early 2018. I started the the 10X audiobook in early January and finished it within two days. I was hooked by his energy and his NO BS approach. In essence, Grant (Uncle GC, as I like to call him) talks about business success by taking massive action (aka the 10X rule). Great sales techniques (everything in life is sales) and the perfect motivation to if you're in a funk and want an extra push.
  4. Be Obsessed or Be Average By Grant Cardone In this book, Grant takes what is talked about in the 10X Rule and really digs deep. It shifts the focus from mediocrity and a balanced life, and it preaches what most of us don't want to hear: you have to work your ass off in order to achieve success; there's no easy way out. As Grant says, we're in the middle of an epidemic of average, where conventional wisdom tells us to seek balance and take it easy. But, that has just given us an excuse to be unexceptional. If you want real success, you have to know how to harness your obsession, and this book will give you the inspiration and tools to ditch mediocrity and fuel your obsession. HIGHLY RECOMMEND FOR ANY PERSON, REGARDLESS OF INDUSTRY, CAREER, BUSINESS, ETC! GC IS THE MAN!
